Task 1 - Applications of 3D

3D is used in almost all if not all interactive media in this day and age.whether this be because of how it looks or helps with educational things. these can help people in lots of ways or just be used for fun, 3D is mostly used for fun now a day because of how the aesthetics does.

Games
games didn't originally use 3D modelling since games have existed for longer. The first commercial game that was released was called 3D Monster Maze.and has progressed throughout the age. over time software's and techniques were perfected allowing for better use

Example
3D Monster Maze - 1981
3D Monster Maze was the first ever game released on a commercial games machine that was in 3D. this game was developed  my a man called Malcolm Evans in 1981 for a old console called the Sinclair ZX81.  the basis of the game was that you were being chased after by a Tyrannosaurus Rex and for each step you took without being caught you was rewarded points.

Persona 5 - 2016
persona 5 is a upcoming game for the ps3 and ps4 which which makes great use of 3D modelling for everything from the surroundings, characters, enemies and characters but they also use it in conjunction with 2D when they show the characters faces and use visual novel like style.

Nintendo 3DS

TV/Film
Television and Film have used 3D modelling in animation in lots of things one example is south park that is created in the 3D modelling software Maya. just like the 3DS as well there are 3D movies and 3D TVs which are able to give you a 3D perspective on what you're watching

Example
South park is a example of a cartoon made in Maya, in Maya the characters were created and then put through animation to make the episodes

Film
a 3D film is a movie that enhances the illusion of depth perception which in  turn gives the illusion of 3 dimensional video, these 3D films are captured using two lenses placed side by side, just like your eyes and try to replicate stereoscopic photography.

Example
Avatar is the first movie that comes to mind that use 3D, i really enjoyed the movie and because of the 3D effect you can really experience and enjoy the far off world and its stunning beauty. the scenery and creatures and how quick paced some parts of the movie was use the 3D effect superbly.

Education
education can be helped by 3D modelling because you are able to put a thing that you could only observe on paper before can be seen from every angle such as a diagram of the human body by using diagrams you will be able to teach more thoroughly than before and by doing that increase the efficiency of your teaching

Example
Teaching anatomy would really be improved since you would be able to observe it from every angle unlike a 2D counterpart. by using this you would be able to make a 3D interface where just by looking and clicking on the body you would be able to get information on the entirety of the design

Medicine
Medicine and medical practice can be helped by 3D software such as 3D printers one example would be creating limps for those who have lost there's this way they can be made much easier than other ways and can help a lot of people. another things would be personalized 3D printed drugs Pharmacists could analyze a patient’s profile to determine an optimal medication dose which will then be put into a 3D printer to be made

this is a 3D-printed cardiovascular models that was used on a child that struggled to breath and because of this survived

These are all prosthetic limbs that have been printed using a 3D printer

Mathematics

Example

Engineering
engineering can be used to design the newest cars and engines and by using certain software that are able to do calculations such as SpaceClaim which is able create, edit, or repair geometry which allows more time to be dedicated to primary job functions such as manufacturing, analysis, and concept modeling.

Example

architecture
in architecture you would be able to have 3D modeling software to try out different designs. this would be similar to a game designer  creating a building for a game. a architecture would most likely have the software set up to help create the building and keep it stable so he knows what he would need. a architect would be able to create new and great looking building while also checking the lighting, safety and other features

Example

Product Design
designing products is a lot like designing assets for a game. when you design a product you have to design what you are making the product look like while also keeping the use of the product and how much everything will cost. so by designing the product using 3D you will be viewing the aesthetics, efficiency, price and other things to do with the product.

Task 1 - Applications of 3D
How is 3D used by the interactive media and computer games industries?
Include and comment on examples of work produced using the 3D modelling across a range of industries: games, TV, film, education, web, medicine, mathematics, engineering, architecture, product design etc.

Remember that you are trying to comprehensively explain the theory and applications of 3D with elucidated examples and consistently using subject terminology correctly.

This provides evidence Unit 66 – P1, M1, D1
